Ineke Hans
Ineke Hans (born in 1966) studied product design in the Netherlands, before graduating with an MA in Furniture Design from the Royal College of Art in London in 1995 and eventually setting up her own studio in the Netherlands in 1998.
She started by creating her own furniture and product collections, which are still sold via INEKEHANS|COLLECTION today. Now STUDIO|INEKEHANS designs and works with a small team on a wide range of 3D projects. Furniture and products come as one-offs, small batch products or mass-produced items, based on the interest in designing and defining objects well suited to new and appropriate production methods. The studio also designs and produces exhibitions and architectural projects.
The studio works for innovative, international design manufacturers including Arco, Cappellini, Chi ha paura…?, Iittala, Lensvelt, Magis, Offecct, Royal Ahrend, RoyalVKB, SCP, and for clients such as Cooper Hewitt Museum (NY), Royal Dutch Forest Guard, Shorefast Foundation Canada and Dutch governmental organisations.
Ineke’s early work centered around pictograms and archetypes, but it has evolved in many ways, investigating the psychological roots of products, perceiving and playing with the interaction between people, objects and space. Ineke is considered to be one of the leading Dutch designers, and is highly valued for her down-to-earth, hybrid design approach, focusing on detail, function and clarity, and on her interest in the vernacular. Old and brand new production methods are used in intelligent, unconventional ways. Innovation in materials and production techniques, and a re-thinking of existing human values and habits have become the most important triggers for new work, making it multi layered, playful and social.
Some of her iconic works have won prestigious international design awards. Her work is purchased by leading collectors and museums. Ineke is also involved in international debates and talks on design.
